St. Patrick's Day and Easter are both right around the corner, but you'd never know it by looking at my pins this week. Instead of going for rich emerald tones or springtime pastels, I've been on a more graphic black-and-white kick. But really, can you blame me? As simple as the classic color combo may seem at first glance, it really can encompass countless moods and aesthetics. I'm particularly loving the white, black, and a touch of gold!

This past week has been somewhat rough on me, but I've still found plenty of inspiration on Pinterest, from pretty hand-lettering, to citrusy pops of color, to soft feminine patterns. Clear and definite evidence of how much I'm looking forward to spring!

work | personal branding
Remember my post from last month that featured a couple of logo options for the brand? Well, as you can see above, I made some more changes and am happy to report that amy zhang design has an official logo! I feel like I finally managed to capture both sides of my aesthetic -- the sophisticated and clean-cut feel as well as the more playful and personal handmade element. What do you think of the new official look?
P.S. If you're interested in my whole branding process, you can check it out here!

moodboard | cheerful whimsy
I am so excited about this project -- especially because I get to work with a dear old friend (we've known each other since fifth grade!) Annie's blog is filled with adorable pictures of her family, crafty DIY projects, and whimsical illustrations (she's an illustrator!), and I definitely want the redesign to reflect her artsy, happy, and oh-so-sweet personality. For the color palette, I love the idea of these updated primary colors, with a cheerful yellow as the star. We've also discussed including some hand-lettered or hand-drawn elements, which I think fit perfectly with Annie's artistic and crafty side.
This is my first time going through my new-and-improved design process (I'd say it's "official," but it's really just more organized than what I've done before), and I'm already thrilled with what it's helped me accomplish. I can't wait to share more of my work -- and stay tuned for the final redesign of Annie's blog!

logo options
As I spend more time creating hand-drawn and hand-lettered work, I've started to feel that my original logo (above left) doesn't quite express my style as well as it could. I still love the colors and the concept of something clean and bold, but I've been playing around with an idea that I feel expresses me a bit better (above right). What do you think? Should I stick with a more formal look (that is still very much my aesthetic), or should I go with something that has a little more personality?
