a study of black

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Today is my first day of school at SCAD! And even though I'll miss my relaxing summer, I'm so excited to start the term. Over the past few weeks, I've found myself drawn to the stark and serious contrast of black and white (albeit generally tempered with a warm autumn tone), which somehow seems to perfectly reflect the my mix of nerves and excitement for my newly studious life.

One of the greatest things about academia is that you learn to see the nuances as well as the big picture -- and in some ways, I approach the idea of black and white in the same way. On the surface, all you see is the contrast between two opposite colors (or non-colors, depending on how you look at it!). But the more variations of black and white that you see, the more you realize that the hues are never exactly the same and that their overall effect really depends on both content and context. In other words, the more you delve into a subject, the more there is to learn... and I can't wait to start the learning process!
